Have not written much here recently, honestly writing when I was in pain with my ankle was extremely unappealing to me. The pain still lingers but is a looot better wihtout the stress of such a physically demanding day anymore!
Absolutely stacked in hee-ho-ing merch! Jack Frost and SMT as a whole has definately been a recent obsession, I love the damn guy so much. He’s a little shit but that darn hee-ho gets me. So I bought way too much merch at a local anime convention of him.
I went to Kenora with some buddies! Went on a hike where we got lost and I started to regret thinking I could manage it with my ankle. Somehow made it out alive despite the circumstances and made some great memories :). Was fun being out of the city for a weekend and getting absolutely sloshed.
Finished up my term with the city quite happy with myself. I ended up enjoying the work a fair bit, was fun meeting people in all parts of life! Sure there were a few bad apples here and there, overall the experience led me into places I never thought I could reach. Also had an absolutely great time riffing with my coworkers. Hope I get to work with them again in the future!
Went to folkfest and saw BCNR live??????? Holy shit that was a goddamn gorgeous show. I never considered myself the biggest fan of BCNR post Issac Wood, I love my whiny weird lyrics vocals. But my god did that live show change my mind. I never realized Georgia sang some of the songs on the latest album?? She has the voice of an angel who is also somewhat of a loser (positive). Had an ascending moment listening to them live and am so so happy I went! Bussing home on the other hand kinda sucked, where there weren’t actually enough bus’s scheduled to pick everyone up so a good chunk of us had to wait for a few hours. Met some cool people from out of town so wasn’t the worst experience though!
SMT4 soundtrack is lifechanging. Started playing the game recently almost entirely because I loved the bits of the soundtrack I heard. The xylophone on Battle B2 is so batshit crazy. The atmosphere of ‘Tokyo’ is so damn evocative. The drums on Midtown???? It constantly surpirsed me with every turn. Usually in Megaten games it feels as if you hear all of the songs within the first 5 hours with the exception of a few battle themes here and there. SMT4 is on the opposite end of the spectrum where the soundtrack just keeps going? With 4 hours and 30 minutes worth of content, it truly just keeps on giving.
Listening to a lot of Geese and Cameron Winter again. There’s a specific mood that songs like ‘Cancer of the Skull’ and ‘Husbands’ hit just right for me. Love Mr. Winter’s voice a lot, I think he’s a great singer with an unconventional voice in the industry :)
Finished up Dust of Dreams and started The Crippled God. Dust of Dreams was a bit of a harder read for me, mainly because all of it did feel like setup for the next book in the series. The events of the ending though? Absolutely heart wrenching. The Bonehunter’s vs the K’Chain Che’Malle army an absolute jawdropper. To have the main cast of characters be decimated in the last moments of the book leading to the finale of the series is so brutal, I can’t imagine how painful it would have been to be a reader waiting almost 2 years for the sequel. Luckily here in 2026, all I had to do was just buy the book and all was solved :). It is nice to have a central conflict for the series finally revealed over 9 books in. Having compassion for The Crippled God is a topic I wanna discuss in more depth after finishing the series, so I’ll leave it at I think the idea is neat for now.
I am absolutely in love with everything SMT right now naturally. Started SMT4, almost finished Metaphor:ReFantazio, finished Devil Survivor: Overclocked, and thought about playing Raidou a lot. Press turn as a system works so so well, and I am addicted with using it in every game I play. Loved it a lot in Metaphor, still great in SMT4 as well. The connecting factor of Megaten games just being the fact that demons are in all of them is very fun. The gameplay and worlds are often different enough where the consistency makes it incredibly easy to transition into whatever new system is in play with each game. 4’s smirk mechanic is a bit frustarating but wow is the sound design for it great. 4 also has my favourite setting so far, starting off in a edo-era Japan like world aboveground set on top of a post apocalyptic Tokyo with modern technology. Leads to great character moments where our main cast questions what a fridge is :).
